As a whole, the ‘new economy’ paradigm is largely driven by collaboration, creativity, compassion and commitment.
Naturally, so is the team that comes together to deliver our Living the New Economy events – whether in Canada or abroad.
We’re very pleased to introduce you to the community of amazing people who deliver Living the New Economy!
Founder & Co-Producer, Living the New Economy
Nicole has started calling herself a serial Founder. Initiatives range from the BodyHeals Integrative Medicine events and Animate Community Inc., to the Victoria Community Health Cooperative and the Healing Cities Institute Society all of which she co-founded. More recently, she founded the Living the New Economy events and Hot Flash Café. LNE grew from a gradual instant in May 2012 when she understood that the dominant financial system underpinned fundamental issues in every context she’d worked and lived. This journey has given her a unique 30,000 foot view of the weave of connections between issues in health, sustainable urban development, various approached to finance and economies, and our inner and relational lives. A speaker, writer, visionary, facilitator, activist, counsellor/coach, event producer and consultant, parent and partner, she grounds everything she does in the literal dirt while gardening or via walking, especially barefoot in the ocean.

Co-Producer, Living the New Economy
I am deeply invested in bringing deeper connection to the world, starting here at home. I have been creating festivals, events and community spaces for about 20 years. Nearly a decade, ago I founded the music & arts venue, Sunset Room (now Sunset Labs). I was excited to provide a home for friends’ art projects and a community-centric & alcohol-free alternative to other available venues. In 2008, I joined the Victoria Electronic Music Festival team, and grew the festival as General Manager until 2011. That same year, I brought a talented team together and created Victoria’s annual Earthdance Festival, part of a global celebration of peace, which we delivered from 2008-2012.
Wanting to do some good work outside of music and arts, and after some time of bouncing foodie ideas around in 2010, I co-founded the Victoria Downtown Public Market Society, and we went on to produce two successful Eat Here Now Food Festivals before launching the long-awaited Victoria Public Market in September 2013. Last year I also joined the Board at OUR Ecovillage, a 26 acre permaculture education centre located in Shawnigan Lake.
Which brings us to now! For about four years I’ve been quietly fostering the vision for a project called Stream of Consciousness, a social enterprise with a mission to livestream (web broadcast) & archive progressive local ‘conscious’ content – like LNE content! Inspired by the vision for the ‘new economy’, I’m honoured to be participating as a co-producer this year, and to be able to host at Sunset Labs AND use our Stream of Consciousness platform to share it with the world!
Co-Ordinator, the Opportunity Fair
Sally Ross has taken the lead on organizing Living the New Economy’s three annual Opportunity Fairs, and she is again our trusty and uplifting facilitator for the day. Sally is excited to invite a broad spectrum of creative entrepreneurs and ideas people to the Royal BC Museum for a Fair that inspires the masses! Come out November 8th ready for the emergence of innovative projects and new collaborations into the limelight, and bring your own unique expression of community spirit.
